Ask before you update OpenClaw
Use case
The framework moves, and you do not want a surprise restart in the middle of the day. Each night OpenClaw checks for a new version, posts a short changelog, and waits. You say update, and it applies the version and restarts the gateway.
What to connect
The OpenClaw CLI on this machine, and a Telegram topic for update notes.
Setup
- Confirm the command that prints the installed version and the command that upgrades it. Put both in the skill so they are not guessed later.
- Schedule the check for 21:00 local time.
- Send notes to the [UPDATES] Telegram topic.
- Run it once. If you are already current, the message should say so in one line and not offer a fake changelog.
Edit before you send: The check time, the Telegram topic, and the exact upgrade command for your install.
Prompt to paste into OpenClaw
Save this as a skill named openclaw-update. Every night at [21:00] [TIMEZONE], check whether a newer OpenClaw release is available. If I am current, send one line to the [UPDATES] topic: the version I am on. Do not pad it. If an update exists: - Post the version and a changelog summary as one-line bullets. - Ask if I want to update. Do not upgrade until I say yes. - When I say yes, run [UPGRADE COMMAND], then restart the gateway with [RESTART COMMAND]. - Reply with the version now running. If the upgrade fails, leave the old version in place and paste the error. If I ask "show me the changelog" before I decide, send the notes and keep waiting.
